Got to grips with threading your overlocker, neatening seams and maybe even whipping up a few T-shirts? Then it’s time to take things further! Your overlocker is capable of so much more, and so are you!
In this fun and focused 3-hour workshop, you’ll explore decorative overlocker techniques designed to be shown off, not hidden inside. You’ll create a set of inspiring sample swatches to take home, perfect for sparking ideas for your next makes.
What you’ll learn:
- Rolled and lettuce hems
- Mock bands
- Flatlocking
- Fagotting
- Working with decorative threads
- Inserting ribbons and yarns
Skills: This class is ideal for those who are confident using their overlocker. You should be comfortable with threading, re-threading and making basic adjustments such as stitch width, length and tension. If you’ve completed our Get to Know Your Overlocker workshop, this is the perfect next step.
Materials needed:
- Your overlocker (must be a 3 or 4 thread machine, with rolled hem capability or the ability to convert)
- Instruction manual and full tool kit (including tweezers!)
- Fabric and trim remnants will be provided, but feel free to bring any of your own for experimenting
About your Teacher: Jo gained her experience in the fashion industry as a designer/pattern cutter in ladies’ outerwear. She has taught adults sewing and pattern cutting skills for over a decade: from absolute beginners sewing to bra making, simple pattern alterations to fitting masterclasses; inspiring and encouraging creativity and confidence in dressmaking and sewing projects.
